About Me:
I am a faculty member and the Education Technology Integration Coordinator for the Kansas State University College of Education. I am an educational futurist who works to leverage technology for the benefit of learners. I am an educator, digital storyteller, blogger and digital change agent, artist and friend. I address a range of topics related to technology integration, distance learning, education, business and twenty-first century literacy. I am a catalyst for creative engagement and collaborative learning. Additionally, I am an experienced graphic designer, website designer, author and technology consultant. I have written and facilitated over $850,000 in technology grants in Kansas.

Bear in mind, I am not a geek/techie. I know many geek/techies, and I am absolutely NOT one of them. Geek/Techies are excited by creating the technology. I am excited by what that technology can do and about discovering the possibilities. Technology is changing the way we do business, teach, and learn, in the 21st century, I am a part of that change.

Why are you interested in the K-12 Online Conference?
I am so honored to be a presenter this year. This is the best staff development I have had the past several years. I must admit I am very nervous presenting in this venue this year. But am trying hard to practice what I preach to my own students, all of which are future teachers.
What subjects do you teach:
I work with pre-service teachers at Kansas State University. I teach Technology for Teaching and Learning. All education majors take my class!!! I also do a great deal of staff development in k-12 schools.

I used ScreenFlow. http://www.telestream.net/screen-flow/overview.htm. I have tried numerous others SnapzPro http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/ and I like the basic capture part but do not like the video part as much. Also, IShowU http://store.shinywhitebox.com/home/home.html.

I like the embedded photo of the presenter in ScreenFlow. And you can change the size of the presenter photo. Screenflow is the only program I have found that does that. It also has some editing features. It is not free, but worth the price.

I liked the way you recorded your presentation. I have a mac as well. What program are you using that allows you to be shown in a box but still see your desktop as well?

Comment on Nurturing the 21st Century History Teacher by mrscj

I didn't feel nurtured by this. I saw some neat implementation of technology for current events. Otherwise, the only history application was the day in the life of a hobo project. So where is the fundamental change in how technology will change teaching history? I love to implement tech tools, but when I have to share 3 computer labs with a campus of over 3000 students and a few mobile computer carts, what ends up happening is a few tech projects here and there. Go to any workplace, the employees don't have to "sign-up" to use technology...they have dedicated resources. The 11th graders on our campus were all issued laptops for a 1:1 history program and the district created "canned" online/moodle curriculum for them. So it's death by powerpoint with your own personal view screen. So until there is a true 1:1 situation where administrators trust teachers to use those resources responsibly, then I don't see much opportunity for change.

Alice & Deb, Thanks for the vote of confidence! We do try to have a good and productive time with the tools available. Positive feedback is great - suggestions are also welcome; it's definitely still an ongoing process.

Comment on “Parental Engagement in the 21st Century” Teaser by Three for three – a meme about web 2.0 teachers | Parents as Partners

[...] 3) Matt Montagne Matt is a Tech Coordinator at the Castilleja School in Palo Alto, CA. Matt is an innovator. EVery time I turn around Matt has found another way to look at at subject and mould it into exceptional learning activities for his students. I first met Matt when I searched for teachers who were involving parents in their child’s school work. Imagine how excited I was to find a wiki for parent education workshops. From that point on I can’t keep count of all of the new and exciting things Matt has done. I watched Matt become an outstanding webcaster at edtechtalk.com. You will find Matt in EarthBridges and Earthcast, Parents as Partners and Edtechbrainstorm (when Doug Symington is away.) Calling home with ustream is one of my favourite memories of our K12Online conference presentation. [...]
