About Me:
I have been a professional educator for over 30 years. I completed my BA in Education at ASU, and earned my M.Ed. and Ed.D. degrees from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. I began my teaching career in special education and have taught grades 1-6. I have had many administrative/leadership roles throughout my career including elementary principal, special education director, director of a private school for the deaf, coordinator of a Professional Development School (PDS) program affiliated with Arizona State University-West, and teacher education lecturer at ASU-West. Courses I have taught include action research, classroom instruction and management, curriculum organization, technology integration in the K-12 classroom, classroom assessment, and the student teaching capstone seminar. I have been involved in many educational technology projects related to Web 2.0 and best practices for technology integration in schools/universities. I co-host the weekly Classroom 2.0 LIVE webinars on Elluminate which are dedicated to supporting teachers with resources and practical suggestions for incorporating Web 2.0 technologies into their teaching and learning. I am actively involved in the EdTechTalk (ETT) community through weekly webcasts, co-hosting the Women of the Web webcast, and serving as a co-editor of the weekly newsletter. I am currently serving as an AzTEA Board Member (ISTE Affiliate), and am a consultant for the AZ Digital Nation project for PBS/Frontline.

My passion is continuing to explore all of the latest technology innovations and social networking opportunities for engaging students/teachers in powerful interactive learning experiences, and to share these resources with other educators.

Hi Peggy, It's a small world. We have some other overlapping things -- I attended ASU and grew up in Massachusetts. It looks like you're a wealth of info regarding Ed Tech. I hope I can draw on your expertise :-)

Comment on Nurturing the 21st Century History Teacher by mrscj

I didn't feel nurtured by this. I saw some neat implementation of technology for current events. Otherwise, the only history application was the day in the life of a hobo project. So where is the fundamental change in how technology will change teaching history? I love to implement tech tools, but when I have to share 3 computer labs with a campus of over 3000 students and a few mobile computer carts, what ends up happening is a few tech projects here and there. Go to any workplace, the employees don't have to "sign-up" to use technology...they have dedicated resources. The 11th graders on our campus were all issued laptops for a 1:1 history program and the district created "canned" online/moodle curriculum for them. So it's death by powerpoint with your own personal view screen. So until there is a true 1:1 situation where administrators trust teachers to use those resources responsibly, then I don't see much opportunity for change.

Alice & Deb, Thanks for the vote of confidence! We do try to have a good and productive time with the tools available. Positive feedback is great - suggestions are also welcome; it's definitely still an ongoing process.

Comment on “Parental Engagement in the 21st Century” Teaser by Three for three – a meme about web 2.0 teachers | Parents as Partners

[...] 3) Matt Montagne Matt is a Tech Coordinator at the Castilleja School in Palo Alto, CA. Matt is an innovator. EVery time I turn around Matt has found another way to look at at subject and mould it into exceptional learning activities for his students. I first met Matt when I searched for teachers who were involving parents in their child’s school work. Imagine how excited I was to find a wiki for parent education workshops. From that point on I can’t keep count of all of the new and exciting things Matt has done. I watched Matt become an outstanding webcaster at edtechtalk.com. You will find Matt in EarthBridges and Earthcast, Parents as Partners and Edtechbrainstorm (when Doug Symington is away.) Calling home with ustream is one of my favourite memories of our K12Online conference presentation. [...]
