Amazed by the ideas and the participation

In addition to being amazed by the levels of participation from educators around the globe in this year's conference, I am so enthused by the ideas which were shared by presenters in the conference! I am presenting at a face to face conference tomorrow, and while I'm looking forward to that, I really wish I was going to have more time to hear even more presentations from K12Online07! I was going through some links… Continue

Hi Wes,
I am amazed that you have time to do all that you do. I've just been walking home from the ferry, after a lovely lunch looking over Sydney Harbour. On my walk I was listening to your most recent podcast about the ICT conference you attended in China, and now, here you are on my ning page - amazing!

Last year I found the conference very easy to navigate around. I didn't attend any of the sessions during real time but would follow the blog etc in our evenings. This year the conference falls during our initial holiday weeks, so perhaps I'll set the alarm for an early morning rise.

I remember last year I really liked the voicethreads by the presenter where they posed just a couple of questions to assist participants to reflect on the session. I know I found everyone's comments very interesting and I'm pretty sure I left a couple of comments too. I know I made a voicethread about podcasts which I put up on the "not K-12" conference (that alternative strand). I gathered some helpful feedback from others on that voicethread.

Can't wait to see what's in store for us this year. Many thanks for making this fantastic professional learning event happen.

Comment on Nurturing the 21st Century History Teacher by mrscj

I didn't feel nurtured by this. I saw some neat implementation of technology for current events. Otherwise, the only history application was the day in the life of a hobo project. So where is the fundamental change in how technology will change teaching history? I love to implement tech tools, but when I have to share 3 computer labs with a campus of over 3000 students and a few mobile computer carts, what ends up happening is a few tech projects here and there. Go to any workplace, the employees don't have to "sign-up" to use technology...they have dedicated resources. The 11th graders on our campus were all issued laptops for a 1:1 history program and the district created "canned" online/moodle curriculum for them. So it's death by powerpoint with your own personal view screen. So until there is a true 1:1 situation where administrators trust teachers to use those resources responsibly, then I don't see much opportunity for change.

Alice & Deb, Thanks for the vote of confidence! We do try to have a good and productive time with the tools available. Positive feedback is great - suggestions are also welcome; it's definitely still an ongoing process.

Comment on “Parental Engagement in the 21st Century” Teaser by Three for three – a meme about web 2.0 teachers | Parents as Partners

[...] 3) Matt Montagne Matt is a Tech Coordinator at the Castilleja School in Palo Alto, CA. Matt is an innovator. EVery time I turn around Matt has found another way to look at at subject and mould it into exceptional learning activities for his students. I first met Matt when I searched for teachers who were involving parents in their child’s school work. Imagine how excited I was to find a wiki for parent education workshops. From that point on I can’t keep count of all of the new and exciting things Matt has done. I watched Matt become an outstanding webcaster at edtechtalk.com. You will find Matt in EarthBridges and Earthcast, Parents as Partners and Edtechbrainstorm (when Doug Symington is away.) Calling home with ustream is one of my favourite memories of our K12Online conference presentation. [...]
