Amazed by the ideas and the participation

In addition to being amazed by the levels of participation from educators around the globe in this year's conference, I am so enthused by the ideas which were shared by presenters in the conference! I am presenting at a face to face conference tomorrow, and while I'm looking forward to that, I really wish I was going to have more time to hear even more presentations from K12Online07! I was going through some links… Continue

Hi Wes,
I am amazed that you have time to do all that you do. I've just been walking home from the ferry, after a lovely lunch looking over Sydney Harbour. On my walk I was listening to your most recent podcast about the ICT conference you attended in China, and now, here you are on my ning page - amazing!

Last year I found the conference very easy to navigate around. I didn't attend any of the sessions during real time but would follow the blog etc in our evenings. This year the conference falls during our initial holiday weeks, so perhaps I'll set the alarm for an early morning rise.

I remember last year I really liked the voicethreads by the presenter where they posed just a couple of questions to assist participants to reflect on the session. I know I found everyone's comments very interesting and I'm pretty sure I left a couple of comments too. I know I made a voicethread about podcasts which I put up on the "not K-12" conference (that alternative strand). I gathered some helpful feedback from others on that voicethread.

Can't wait to see what's in store for us this year. Many thanks for making this fantastic professional learning event happen.

Comment on KICKING IT UP A NOTCH KEYNOTEBRINGing it OUT a notch by Diego Leal

Hi Gail! Thanks for your comment! We did our best to synchronize audio/captions, but there are places where we just get constrained by the dotSub tools. There's something very interesting about your experience, that I hadn't realized before. In our countries, we get a lot of movies (and some TV shows these days) with Spanish subtitles. Seems to me, now, that we develop the skill to read those subtitles and synch them in our head with the English audio and the video. I might be wrong, but suddenly I'm thinking that's not a skill very developed in English speakers... Very interesting stuff.. I hope you got enough meaning from the presentation. In case you need it, I have the complete English script. I'll just upload it to the wiki site. Good suggestion that of having translation tools in the conference page. This is the first time we do this, so we're actually experimenting and learning along the way. :D By the way, I have the feeling this is the first discussion I have where the posts are both in English & Spanish, so I can see how useful could be what you propose. Please let me know if you have further comments about the presentation. I'll be more than happy to talk about it! --- Hola Gail!

Comment on “Motivating student writers by fostering collaboration through tagging and aggregating” Teaser by elvira chinen

It is so interesting to hear people from all over the world communicating. I am curious to know exactly what type of assignments they do and how the other students from around the world may be critiquing a piece of writing or just having a conversation with other students. I believe those who are learning English in the Spanish speaking countries are doing great reaching out and communicating with real audience and having real people listening to what they have to say.

Comment on Obstacles to Opportunities “Me blog? No way!!!” by elvira chinen

Few years ago I thought it was not as important to use all these new tools in the web but since the world is changing it is important for us as educators to change as well so that we give the students the skills they need in the future which is the use of web 2.0 tools. With so many fun tools in the web, I think we can always make it animated and grab the students’ attention by using it for instance voki or teach the students how to use it to make projects interesting and make the students develop their creativity.
